Sara Grace | Arts Therapist at Arts Therapy Expression
Sara Grace – Creative Arts Therapist at Arts Therapy Expression
About Arts Therapy
Art is a non-verbal language. It encourages you to step back and see something new about yourself or a situation that you may have not seen or been able to verbalise before. Through arts therapy, people can process emotions that are difficult to explain and find new ways of self-expression and personal growth.
Sara believes creating a safe therapeutic space for clients is key to exploring their emotions, thoughts, and life experiences. She is committed to helping her clients improve their quality of life and relationship with themselves and others around them.
What to expect from your session with Sara
During your session, you will work towards your goals in creative ways. There’s absolutely no artistic ability needed to engage in arts therapy. It is about expressing what you are feeling and experiencing in a creative and supportive space. Sometimes it will be all artmaking, a combination of talking and art-making, or just talking if that’s appropriate. For children, it could be all artmaking, play, and perhaps even some science experiments to foster growth, heal trauma, and build self-esteem!
Some of the techniques you may experience are; painting, drawing, writing, collage, mind maps, play, sand tray, clay, guided drawing, mindfulness, and movement.
Sara holds a Masters and Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Arts Practice (Arts Therapy) and a Diploma in Community Services. She is registered with Anzacata, the peak professional body for Creative Arts Therapists.
She works with all age groups, including children and teens, and focuses on individual needs within a person-centered framework. Sara is trauma-informed with understanding the importance of providing a holistic approach to healing, including a sensory and cognitive approach. She incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in her practice and has studied under Dr. Russ Harris, author of The Happiness Trap.
As a Creative Arts Therapist, Sara has worked with community service organizations and one on one sessions. From facilitating a community prayer flags project, mandala workshops, working in outreach, and individual sessions via Zoom, she has many years’ experience assisting others.
